"Math—Really Grasping It: I enjoy helping students with their math, helping them thoroughly understand the logic of the mathematical concepts and procedures at hand and how to apply them to specific cases. Online Tutoring: While online tutoring can be challenging for some students, I believe the same thing can be accomplished online with the generous use of visual aids, and I have experience doing this, having taught several graduate school courses online. Teaching Experience in Algebra: Over the last two summers (June, 2022 and June, 2023), I taught a summer school course in mathematics (IM2A, similar to Algebra 1) at Olympian High School and Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, California. I use traditional methods of showing the students all the mathematical steps on the board, followed by specific problems. Many students who struggle with specific problems do so because they never really understood the mathematical concepts and how they relate to other mathematical concepts they have previously learned. This is a big focus of my tutoring.
My Background: I formerly served at Northwest Theological Seminary in Washington State, in which I was Professor of Systematic Theology and instructor in New Testament. I was also an instructor of Hebrew from 2005-18 and instructor of Greek from 2007-18. In addition, I gained experience in online education from 2016-18, teaching several of my courses in New Testament and systematic theology remotely. During this time, I gained extensive experience working with graduate students one on one and in small groups. My dean considered my greatest strength to lie in these close personal interactions. In addition, I have worked with high school students for many years, as a substitute teacher, and have received excellent feedback on how much my teaching has helped them, especially in mathematics. I look forward to the opportunity of working with you or your son or daughter, and helping you excel at whatever you set your mind to." less...
