"As a robotics engineer with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Robotics, I have a deep educational foundation in STEM subjects such as math and physics. Throughout my career, I have been drawn to teaching others. Over the past 10 years I have found outlets to teach, whether by tutoring my peers in school, mentoring students, or teaching as a TA. Most recently, I had the pleasure of developing curricula for and teaching a college-level course, ROB204: Introduction to Human-Robot Systems, a required course for the University of Michigan Robotics program.
When a student seeks outside tutoring it is often because they either are having difficulty with the material or are hoping to perfect their execution of the material for an important milestone such as an AP exam. Both students, however, can benefit from the same solution: learning to think like an engineer. Students learning math and/or physics often get overwhelmed by the sheer number of equations they are expected to learn throughout the class and feel they must resort to rote memorization. Tests can feel like a game of desperately remembering which formula or procedure to use and when. I was in the top of my class in college and graduate school, not because I was necessarily smarter than other students, but because I knew how to digest the material in a way that was understandable.
All students have capacity to learn, it is just a matter of how. Information may make sense to some students after some careful questions, but others may need more. This varies for every student, whether it is a need for visual demonstration, contextualization, or simply needing to know why a high school student should care about subjects like math and physics when all they want to do is go to music school. As your tutor I will show you that the world of math and physics does not solely belong to mathematicians and physicists. YOU can learn these subjects too, and with dedication and patience, I will help you think like an engineer and achieve your educational goals." less...
