"Hi! My name is Shelby, and I've been a tutor since 2015. I started by working at my university's Tutoring and Learning Center, where I worked with physics, math, chemistry, and astronomy students. I kept this job until I graduated in the Spring of 2018 with two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Mathematics and one in Physics. After graduating, I moved on to online tutoring, which I have been doing ever since!
The bulk of my tutoring experience has been with math and physics students. I have worked with math students in Algebra; Trigonometry; Precalculus; Calculus I, II, and III; Differential Equations; and High School Integrated Mathematics. My physics students were taking classes like Algebra-Based General Physics, Calculus-Based General Physics, Statics, Dynamics, Modern Physics, and High School Physics.
Tutoring has been my passion since I first started working as a tutor for my university. At first I was nervous, because I started that job based on a recommendation from one of my professors, and I wasn't sure what I was getting into. But within a month of starting, I loved my job! I'm grateful to be able to share my knowledge and experience with students, and I truly enjoy the time I spend helping my students learn and grow. As much as I will miss them, my ultimate goal is to help my students improve to the point that they no longer need my guidance.
I have loved math as long as I can remember. However, that passion completely flared when I took AP Calculus my senior year of high school. I was amazed at the way math can model our world, and give us insight into the how's and why's of everything around us. I took as many math classes at university as I could, and I reached a point where I was able to get a separate B.S. in Mathematics, along side my main degree in Physics. I have 6 years of tutoring experience, and I'd estimate that about 60% of that time was spent working with math students of all levels. I'm always grateful to have the opportunity to share the subject I love with others!
