"My name is Rhonda and I have a bachelors degree in social sciences, with a minor in psychology. To obtain this I have taken classes in education, criminal justice, sociology and psychology. As a college student, I participated with peer tutoring to help others. This was not a paid position, rather I earned college credits.
I started my career in a School for Children diagnosed with autism. I was able to work with children learning basic educational concepts, as well as, behaviors. This was a great experience. I learned many different ways to communicate and speak about ideas in many different forms. After this, I worked as an aid in a High School Emotional Support program. I was able to assist students integrate into the regular classroom, often helping them with physical science, algebra, some geometry, English, Biology and lots of history classes. All this while helping them remember to manage their behaviors.
I now work as a Medicaid service coordinator. I am an advocate for people with disabilities. I often work as a part of integrated team to help individuals with developmental delays and physical disabilities obtain services that they need to become as independent in the community as possible.
Over the years I have been able to work with many different types of people. Each one having unique qualities and learning styles. I have been able to help others find their fullest potential in the moment. For example, the "I can't do math" can turn into the " I can do math and you do it like this"
Last I am the mother of a child that had some difficulties. He has gone from below reading and math levels to higher than his class. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to find that one or two things that an individual needs to learn, but it can be done." less...
