"I’m Maya. I graduated with my PhD from Texas A&M University (Go Aggies!)…I tutored Math all through college and then again during graduate school. When I started teaching college Math in 2016 I approached teaching Math like a tutor. I always break the complicated Math concepts down to a basic easy to understand and a what-you-need-to-know format.
Math is often scary to most students and mostly that’s because they did not have many good experiences with Math teachers. I always try to take the intimidation out of Math by using simple examples without the fancy terminology that tends to confuse students. My students often say I take hard Math concepts and make them seem easy.
I enjoy making exam reviews and can come up with examples to help students practice a concept off the top of my head in the moment. Students often like to see all the different scenarios they may encounter on an exam or assessment. I have years of experience writing problems for exams and thus I tend to know the types of questions teaches like to ask about a given topic.
I’m a firm believer that students need hands-on experience working problems that they are about to be tested on with proper guidance in order to have success. I’ve seen many students go from failing exams because they had a vague understanding of the topics and because the exam was the first time they really got their hands dirty to acing the exam once they practiced problems with me.
Let’s make Math less scary together!
