I am an applied math PhD student at UC Merced studying stochastic processes and differential equations to problems in biology and healthcare. For the past four years, I’ve served as one on one peer tutor at both the high school and college level tutoring students in precalculus, calculus, and differential equations. Additionally, I’ve graded for several courses in calculus based probability theory so I am aware of what teachers and professors look for in solutions.
In my tutoring career, I aim to motivate students to develop an intrinsic interest in the subject matter. I also aim to be a guide in the student’s mathematics journey from being scared of math to appreciating the nuances of the subject. This is a task I feel particularly suited for as someone who struggled (and still struggle!) with areas in math because I strongly believe I can connect with and understand points of struggle for students since I likely experienced the same confusion. I am also happy to work through as many examples of a problem as a student would like because I understand the utility of watching the thought process of another in solving problems." less...
