"Hi, I’m Monalisa! I have a PhD in math from the University of Kansas and a Master’s degree in math from IISER Kolkata. For the coursework in my PhD and Master's, I earned a GPA of 4.0 and 3.9, respectively. Over the past 10 years, I have taught and tutored high school and college-level math to students in both India and the U.S., covering over 15 subjects, including College Algebra, Precalculus, all levels of Calculus, Differential Equations, Statistics, and Number Theory. My teaching experience includes lecturing classes of 25–35 students and providing one-on-one support during office hours. I have also taken multiple standardized and entrance exams, including the GRE, where I scored 168/170 in the quantitative section. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of test strategies and the material required for these exams. During my PhD, I received several honors, including the Himmelberg Graduate Student Award and the U.G. Mitchell Scholarship, for outstanding performance in my qualifying exams.
My tutoring approach is interactive and tailored to each student’s needs, ensuring that learning is both effective and engaging. I emphasize problem-solving strategies that promote deeper understanding rather than rote memorization, helping students build critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom. I have worked with students across various skill levels, from those in enhanced courses needing additional support to students in honors courses tackling advanced topics. I focus on breaking down complex concepts into simpler, more intuitive ideas, helping students realize that solutions are within their grasp. This approach builds confidence, strengthens problem-solving abilities, and ultimately leads to mastery of the subject.
If you’re looking for a tutor who can provide structured lessons, clarify difficult concepts, and help you develop strong problem-solving skills, feel free to reach out! I look forward to working with you and making math a subject you can confidently conquer." less...
