"I have over 10 years experience in the tutoring business. I started as a tutor in math and physics when I was a graduate student working on my master's degree. I tutored college level math and physics. Later, I got a full-time position as an assistant director of a tutoring center. In this position, I not just tutor students but I also manage other tutors, including training them in the best tutoring strategies.
I believe the best tutors should be patient, good communicators, flexible and knowledgeable. Patience is key because students will often require time to fully grasp a concept. Tutors should be good communicators because they will need to be able to fully articulate ideas and concepts to students. Tutors need to be flexible because each student's learning style is unique. What works with one student may not work with another. A tutor may need to come up with new, even creative ways to explain a concept. Lastly, a tutor should be knowledgeable in the subject because he/she needs to know the subject better than the student in order to properly explain it.
When I tutor a student, I try to show all these traits. I believe strongly in asking good questions that will get the student thinking. I believe a tutor should never simply give the student the answer but should strive to help the student become a more independent learner.
I hope you will consider me for your tutoring needs. I am happy to help!" less...
