"Hi! I’m Alex! I’m a recent Binghamton University graduate with a B.A. in Mathematical Sciences, and an M.A. in Math Education. As a student teacher, I helped middle and high school students from a variety of developmental levels and educational backgrounds achieve higher proficiency in whatever math coursework they were struggling with. More often than not, the student’s struggles in the classroom had less to do with a lack of mathematical proficiency, and more to do with one–size-fits-all instruction that failed to convince them that what they were doing mattered. As a tutor, I try to relay math concepts and problem-solving skills in a way that serves the student’s interests and strengths because when content is framed in a way that is relevant to the learner, it sticks! I believe we are all capable of mathematical thinking, and I am confident that I can help you find a higher level of math proficiency and the confidence to use it.
For some background, I received a perfect 800 on the SAT Math section, a perfect 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, and completed my Bachelor’s credits in 2 ½ years with a 3.93 major GPA. I am comfortable tutoring SAT Math, Elementary Math, Prealgebra, Algebra I/II, Precalculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. My experience as a student teacher as well as daily substitute teaching has taught me how to build friendly and productive relationships with new students quickly. I truly believe patience is a virtue and combining this with my (sometimes tangential) sense of humor keeps the learning environment safe and relaxed!
If there is anything I can do to make the learning process more streamlined to your needs, please do not hesitate to let me know. For parents, I am more than happy to utilize any school or homeschooling resources that will benefit your child’s instruction!
If you have any other questions, please contact me. I look forward to working with you!" less...
