"Welcome to my profile. I am John. I am a native of Phoenix, Arizona, and have lived here my entire life. I love tutoring mathematics because I am able to take a subject I have passion for, and assist others in having success in this area of their academic careers. I believe that teaching and tutoring in any subject area is about helping others have success in their education. I am transferring to Arizona state University to complete my degree in Secondary Education Mathematics and get my teaching credentials. I do have a year of experience tutoring for Glendale Community College. In this time, I have had experienced great joy in turning math questions that students were having difficulty with, into better understanding of mathematics. I have tutored math subjects ranging from basic math through calculus 1.
I have taken the following courses at the community college; I have passed Intro Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Calculus 1 with A's; and Trigonometry, and Brief Calculus with B's. In this, I am confident in my abilities to tutor for this company. My tutoring approach is to first listen to the student and see where the problem is. Then I choose from my mathematics vocabulary, and see if the student is following along. Lastly, I ask questions to see if the student understands. I believe the biggest key to successfully tutoring is to listen to what the student is struggling with, and then to help.
In addition to helping students with their math progress, I have also gained from the experience as I have had the joy of seeing the success of these students. My experience didn't start with my tutoring position at the college though. I even helped many classmates when taking math courses myself. In these classes, we would form study groups, and whenever there was a question, I was able to help bring better understanding in to what was taught in class. My instructors said of me, that I was very influential in the success of their classes and the success of my classmates. It is my desire to hel" less...
