"Hello. I'm Harrison, the specialist in special needs.
I went through school with ASD and ADHD, and subsequently developed ways to harness them to learn. I was held back in kindergarten, as I wasn't even able to write my own name. However, when I started to learn how to manage my challenges, I started to make progress academically. After years of developing learning techniques, I managed to get ahead in my classes and even complete some of the higher-level classes like calculus and physics. I was even made the school tutor for special needs students in 10th through 12th grades, where I would help my peers learn and understand the subjects that I had already completed or was even in the process of completing. I helped them by meeting them where they were at, using techniques such as helping them make small pneumonic devices to remember material or recontextualizing problems in a way relevant to them.
I graduated high school with a 4.0 unweighted GPA, a 1390 cumulative SAT score, and a 29 composite ACT score as well as being admitted to the national honors society from 9th-12th grades and receiving the Kenneth Bass award for graduating students. Now, before I leave for college, I'm trying to help kids like me, as well as any other struggling kids navigate an increasingly complex and obtuse school system. My goal isn't to help your child pass a test; it’s to help them learn how to teach themselves and understand the world in more depth. Learning shouldn't be a chore, it should be a game, and I seek to help your child by giving them the rulebook." less...
