"My name is Brianna Petro, I'm a summa cum laude graduate from The College of New Jersey where I received a Masters in Education - Special Education, Elementary Education, and STEM. I hold a teaching certificate in the state of New Jersey. I'm a math instructional coach for East Brunswick Public Schools. I'm an expert in math common core standards and teaching best practices. I'm well-versed in curriculum programs used throughout the state. Prior to my current position as a math instructional coach, I was a 4th grade math and science teacher for 4 years.
I tutor students in math in grades 3,4,5. Each tutoring session is tailored to meet the needs of the student I'm working with. Tutoring session are engaging and provide students with multiple means of learning content. At the beginning of my work with students, I administer an assessment to determine specific learning targets. The assessment is correlated to common core standards. After analyzing the assessment data, I create a customized learning plan to help address the needs and fill in the learning gaps identified.
While many tutoring sessions have focused on filling in learning gaps, there have been instances where sessions focus on exposing students to new skills to enrich them mathematically. As a tutor, instructional coach, and former classroom teacher I am constantly collecting informal data on students to help drive instructional decisions and determine next steps to best support the student. After 6 months of working with a student, I reassess to determine new learning targets and celebrate the progress the student has made. Math for students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade is a critical stage in their math education. It sets the stage for more advanced math concepts in the years to come. The increase in mathematical rigor in grade 3,4, and 5 is significant and can leave students and parents feeling overwhelmed. My mission as a tutor is to best support students and parents during these critical years and set them up for success." less...
