"My educational credentials include undergraduate (Colgate University) and graduate (Harvard School of Public Health) degrees in quantitative fields – mathematics and biostatistics, respectively. The bulk of my work over the last two and a half decades has been as an educator: as a classroom teacher (high school mathematics and middle school and high school French), as a tutor (with Colgate’s Math Clinic, with Sylvan Learning, and privately), as a test prep teacher and instructor trainer (with Kaplan), and as a graduate TA (introductory and intermediate biostatistics at Harvard). Teaching awards throughout my career (most recently from Harvard) attest to my success herein.
Additional undergraduate courses in cognitive and developmental psychology have given me an understanding of learning, attention, and disabilities, and I have considerable experience working with youth with specific challenges (ADHD, dyslexia, impaired processing speed, weak executive functioning skills, etc.) both sensitively and effectively. I also value and prioritize building confidence, motivation, organization, and self-reliance in all of my students.
I enjoy the whole gamut of ages and mathematical topics. That is, I am equally comfortable and inspired helping a 4th grader to master the addition of fractions as I am guiding a graduate student to explore the calculus behind regression." less...
