"Hello...My name is Dan and I was a high school math teacher for the 19 years since graduating from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont with a B.S. in Engineering (Class of '92). I taught 4 years at the Webb Schools (private high school in Claremont 1992-1996), 3 years at School of the Arts in San Francisco, and 12 years at San Leandro High School (near Oakland). I have tutored on and off for 5 years while helping middle school, high school, college students and older adults learn everything from Algebra 1 to Precalculus to the GRE and CBEST math tests. I enjoy playing sports such as basketball, golf, tennis, softball...you name it. I especially enjoy watching a student learn...when the light bulb goes on and the expression on a student's face shows understanding. My style of teaching is to break a problem into smaller parts. I explain each of these smaller parts by teaching a lesson of a particular problem. I will check for understanding as I explain these smaller parts. I will then ask students to explain back the lesson to me. If they are able to do so, then I will have the student do a similar problem with different numbers. I am interested in students proving they have learned the material as opposed to just completing a problem. I am easy going, patient, and humorous while I teach/tutor. I cater the speed of the lesson according to the student's pace. I look forward to meeting you..." less...
