"Welcome to my page! My name is Kira and I am a third year undergraduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am majoring in Mathematics and computer science. I am also a Chinese minor. For leisure, I enjoy creating art pieces and coding. I have volunteered and worked at the Museum of Science and Industry which is where I gained teaching experience.
As a volunteer, I learned how to attract an audience with engaging activities that helped children learn. I taught different science concepts to guests. I also encouraged children and guests to ask questions.
As a summer intern (Farrell Fellows intern) at the museum, I worked off-site with children in the city of Chicago, who regularly visited libraries and parks during the summer. As a teaching intern, I planned the curriculum and used multiple resources to teach children, because not all children learn the same. That is my philosophy of instruction.
I see math problems as puzzles, which is why I enjoy tutoring my friends. I am proficient at teaching elementary math, algebra, and geometry. As a math tutor, I can teach using multiple methods, because not everyone learns the same. I believe that in order to excel at math, we must practice solving equations. I can show you, step by step, how to solve problems. Then we can practice problems together. I can also teach you mnemonic techniques for formulas.
I have studied Mandarin for over six years. During that time, I participated in different Mandarin programs. I also received a scholarship to study abroad in China. I took language and culture classes in a school there. I can read newspapers, write letters, and speak. I can teach travellers Chinese customs and survival phrases for shopping, eating, directions, and more. I can also teach basic simplified characters memorization(Chinese in written language) and tones for pinyin (Chinese when pronouncing words).
Feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to working with you." less...
