"Nice to meet you! For some context on me: I'm originally from New York City but have moved around a lot. I went to boarding high school in Massachusetts, and college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I then spent two years teaching 9th Grade English through Teach For America in the Bay Area. My years teaching, my passion for the humanities (especially History and English), and my excitement about standardized testing (strange, I know) make me very excited to teach again as a tutor.

I have experience tutoring my younger cousins in English and as they write essays in college, but I am excited to meet and tutor more folks. I'd be very excited to help you with high school English, to prep for an upcoming test like the ACT or GMAT, or to help with high-school level essays.

After studying for the GMAT for 4 months without a tutor, I scored a 750, with my verbal score in the 99th percentile. The experience gave me lots of shareable tips for how to achieve a high score in a (relatively) short turnaround. I've seen most of the math and verbal problems you will encounter, and have strategies for how to approach the most challenging questions.

Through Teach For America, I taught high school English to 100+ students for two years in California. This, combined with my history of being an A-student in English and History, has given me a solid foundation for teaching close reading skills and literature / essay writing. I've been nationally-awarded for my writing, having won "Best Undergraduate Paper" for my senior honors thesis in college (a 140 page tome on American intervention in the Russian Civil War).

I'd be happy to tutor on a variety of topics, yet the fields I'm best prepared to help with would be high school students for English, and those who are doing ACT or GMAT test prep (who need special focus on the English or Reading/Writing sections).
