"I am a passionate educator with a background in biology, chemistry and medicine. I have a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry, a master's degree in chemistry, and a medical doctorate. I have nearly twenty years of experience in education including tutoring biochemistry, teaching chemistry labs, and developing medical school curriculum in the areas of anatomy, physiology, pathology and clinical medicine. I am especially fascinated by neurology and served as assistant course director for the nervous system course for first year medical students. I have also volunteered for pre-medical advising events and guest taught for K-12.
My approach to tutoring involves several key steps. First, I gather information about your preferred learning styles and methods. Next, I go over the problem and ask questions to discover your understanding of the problem. I find out what next steps you would like to try, and where there may be misunderstandings. Once I have identified your level of understanding, I can then clarify the question and guide you through the solution. During this guidance, I will pause from time to time, to check for questions and understanding. I enjoy using visual aids and creative analogies to enhance teaching.
My experience also includes academic research. This includes computational biophysical chemistry research in which I performed molecular dynamic simulations to provide key estimates for the pKa values of active site residues of a protein involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. I also conducted research studying the heating behavior and mechanism of gold nanoparticles under radiofrequency fields. My research has culminated in several publications in reputable journals.
I am very pleased to meet you and look forward to passing on my knowledge in science and medicine!" less...
