"Hello! My name is Mark, and I am a current fourth-year medical student at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. My career interest is clinical oncology, and my basic science interests include cancer biology, genetics, and biochemistry. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Biology from Fairfield University, where I also had minors in chemistry and health studies. During my time at Fairfield, I was inspired by the enthusiasm of my professors, and I realized that the best kind of teacher is one who can make learning fun. I found learning biology and chemistry to be rewarding, and my education at Fairfield made me an expert in these subjects. After graduating in 2021, I immediately started pursuing my medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. In the past 3 years, I have expanded on this foundation and applied my science knowledge to medicine. During this time, I have been published in multiple cancer research journals and inducted in the national medical honor society for my academic performance. I will graduate this May with my MD.
Although science is fascinating, learning its complex nature is challenging for everyone. Teachers and professors are crucial in guiding students through this process, but students often need individual assistance to excel. At Fairfield, I participated in tutoring and teaching in both biology and chemistry. In biology, I taught 15+ students in classroom settings - during which I discussed classroom material in groups and reviewed worksheet assignments with them. In chemistry, I provided a weekly walk-in tutor service, during which I taught on a whiteboard and assisted with homework assignments. In medical school, I gave lectures to first-year students (often 50+ students at once) about difficult concepts in biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology.
Through these teaching and tutoring opportunities, I have developed passions for teaching, learning, and science, and I hope to share what I have learned with you!" less...
