"My name is Jeffrey, and I am a mechanical engineer with a Bachelor’s of Science from Oregon State University. I earned a 3.53 GPA, with A grades in in courses such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Physics, and 3D Modeling. I use math and physics regularly in my work as product design engineer.
I know math can be frustrating for students; it was for me, but in college I discovered what works and what doesn’t. Lectures and reading books can’t teach difficult skills, those require practice and feedback. I realized that homework is where the real learning happens, but without support you can be left spinning your wheels. I believe that the sooner a student goes from hearing an explanation to doing it themselves to receiving feedback and correction, the better.
I apply this insight to teaching. My process starts with summarizing the basic concepts in a digestible and interesting way, in the form of a dialogue to make sure everything is understood before moving on. Then I demonstrate a problem, showing and explaining each step as I go. Finally, I guide the student through more problems by answering questions and correcting mistakes as they come up.
I have always been passionate about science and technology, and love finding creative ways to distill and explain them. I am skilled in breaking down problems, and though I have not taught in a classroom, I have experience helping classmates, friends, and co-workers understand difficult concepts. I’m easy-going and good with kids, so I decided to start tutoring to apply my experience and passion to helping others find the confidence and success that I did.
I offer help with Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Physical Science, Physics, and Writing. Feel free to reach out with questions by phone or email to schedule a lesson." less...
