"Hello! My name is Kwame B! I am currently a rising Junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. For my educational background, I took AP Physics 1 and AP Calculus BC. I received the AP Physics 1 Student of the Year award. In both of those classes, I explained concepts to other students and pointed out any errors that the student or teacher made when working on a problem. I have also had some experience with presentations to an audience using PowerPoint and other visuals to clarify the material. I did a high school Senior Project as a requirement for graduating with High Honors; this culminated in my presentation on the simulation of “Re-engineering the Juno spacecraft to enter the planet Jupiter”. In this presentation I used visuals to depict the original spacecraft, & the spacecraft with the modifications needed to allow it to enter Jupiter. I also used analogies to explain how to re-engineer the spacecraft to enter Jupiter, such that I related it to a submarine sinking into the ocean. I have since done similar classroom presentations at the college level as well. In my major, I have taken college courses including, but not limited to Statics, Dynamics, and Thermodynamics. I am MATLAB certified as well.
At the classroom setting I have sometimes explained concepts to my college age peers using aids such as sketching out a plot with an equation to help them understand the context of a problem or asking them a few questions to help them process and think on a deeper level to better arrive at a solution to the problem. When explaining a concept, I relate it to previous material in the course in order to help familiarize the listener with what is currently being discussed. I like to accommodate other students' learning styles, so I use visuals to explain an idea, considering that some students are visual learners. I also use analogies to help illustrate an approach to a problem." less...
