"I’m Leah - it’s nice to meet you! I got my Bachelor’s in Science in Biology (with minors in Chemistry and English), and my Master’s in Science in Global Medicine. I’m currently a fourth year student in medical school, and I’ll be applying to general surgery residency programs this year. I’m new to Wyzant but not new to tutoring/mentoring: I have several cumulative years of experience, starting with elementary school students when I myself was in middle school, then middle and high school students, and so on, supporting students in the years just behind me as I grew older and progressed through my education. Currently, in my final year of medical school, I spend most of my time in the clinic or the hospital. There I am constantly doing a mixture of learning and teaching, not only from my attending physicians, but also residents in training above me and fellow med students in years below me, nurses and other members of the healthcare team, and the patients. The age-old ritual of medical education (see one, do one, teach one) encourages an attitude of humility, curiosity, and mutual support. I really enjoy learning and immediately paying it forward by sharing my knowledge and skills.
I have a wide variety of interests, and can provide tutoring in English (including creative writing, essays, and technical writing) as well as multiple science subjects (Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology). Additionally, I don’t mind disclosing that I have ADHD, and was not diagnosed before adulthood. As such, I’m intimately familiar with the way that the standard mold of public school doesn’t fit everyone, and can make you feel like that’s your own fault. Needing a little extra help or a more creative approach doesn’t make a person any less smart or capable nor should preclude one from dreaming big! I’m passionate about supporting other students with executive function/organization/focus challenges (officially diagnosed or otherwise) to find their feet, learn to play to their strengths, and thrive!" less...
