I have been a tutor on this site for physics and math for over 2 years with an additional 2 years of tutoring chemistry and physics at my university. In my experience, the best way to tutor these subjects is by going through practice problems (best if the student has already attempted them) and finding where the issue lies by breaking down the problems. Once we find the problem area, I can use several approaches to find what fits the student’s intuition for the problem. Professors and instructors tend to teach to the whole class by giving general rules to follow and sticking to rigid techniques without providing the necessary foundational intuition. That’s where I like to help students.
I have had students go from being lost in a class to having high A’s from just an hour of going over the ideas and something just “clicks”. Other students know the material and just need help with problem solving techniques or seeing a worked example. Even other students might be stuck on one problem or concept and need to see the trick.
I can tutor for coursework, AP exam preparation, MCAT exam preparation, or just general questions regarding physics, math, and chemistry." less...
