"Greetings! I’m Oreofe, a fourth-year medical student at Howard University, currently applying for ophthalmology residency. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Biology at Howard University as well, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.93 GPA. Additionally, I have received awards/scholarships for ranking amongst the top 10 students in my medical school class, and I have been selected for the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
However, I was not always a top-performing student. I pursued medicine through the BS/MD route, and I had the lowest SAT/ACT scores among my undergraduate cohort. In the beginning of medical school, although I passed my coursework, I did not initially thrive and excel beyond my peers. Through learning effective study techniques, the proper materials/resources, and learning how to get in the mind of the test writers, I was able to drastically improve my performance and comprehension of the material. In fact, I was able to improve my USMLE Step 1 practice test scores by 54 points (183 failing to 237!) within 2 months, then proceeded to honor all of my clerkships/shelf exams, and eventually score a 255 on Step 2CK with just 1.5 weeks of dedicated studying. These achievements have gotten me noticed by several top institutions during my residency application process. I hope to help pre-health and medical students achieve success in their coursework, make a turn for the better, and reach their potential. I am passionate about fostering a growth mindset in students and aiding them in their journeys!" less...
