"Hi! My name is Anaya and I will go to medical school in the fall. I completed my high school degree with an International Baccalaureate (IB) program. I currently attend Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as a Bioinformatics Major and a biology, chemistry, and pre-med minor with a 4.0 gpa.
I have years of experience in teaching STEM classes such as biochemistry, biology, and chemistry. I can also help edit essays and research papers.
From tutoring in high school, being a teaching assistant in college, to directing a research program for high schoolers, I have 6 years of mentorship experience. I have tutored college students individually and in groups up to 5 in chemistry, writing, and biology. I was a preceptor for cellular biology which involved me leading 1 hour lectures to 30 students weekly and creating practice exams.
I directed a medical research program to introduce medical style writing and research to high school students. This process involved reviewing hundreds of applications and selecting 10 students to participate in the program. Thus, I have experience in both writing applications and reviewing them which makes me a strong essay editor.
Communication through writing is especially important to me as I know it can be a limiting factor for many STEM oriented students. I hope to minimize that barrier as writing well will always be an important skill in any career.
My teaching methods involve providing examples, analogies, mnemonics, and memorable real-world applications. On my path towards medical school, I learned the most effective study techniques and hope to teach those habits to my students. I value understanding concepts for life, not just memorization." less...
