"Hello! My name is Ron. I grew up in upstate South Carolina and completed most of my undergraduate B.S. degree in Symbolic Systems (an interdisciplinary major comprising of computer science, psychology, linguistics, and philosophy) at Stanford University. I'm excited to offer my knowledge, energy, and skills to collaborate and achieve your goals! I have a lot of experience as a student, and I understand that learning can sometimes be a challenging process. However, with an individually-tailored guidance and a customized plan, tasks become much more approachable. As your tutor, I hope to consider your motivations, interests, and current understanding in order to achieve your learning goals. I hope that we can persist and overcome obstacles in order to build your knowledge, skills, and confidence.
At the university level, much of my coursework was in computer science and psychology. However, because this world contains an infinite amount of interesting and useful knowledge, I've dabbled in many other subject areas, as well, including math, physics, and languages (Spanish, Hindi, and Khmer). In my free time, I am often perusing Wikipedia or playing tennis at my local parks.
I have 2 years of tutoring experience as a peer tutor when I was in high school, where I was a member of several student organizations that offered open general tutoring hours. This gave me the opportunity to practice explaining a variety of concepts in a 1 to 1 setting. I also tutored students in all subjects, as needed, at a local after-school program, where the ages ranged from the elementary school level through the high school level. I currently also work as a substitute teacher.
I value two-way communication, and I appreciate feedback and ideas about how to make lessons better fit you as an individual. I hope to hear more about your needs, goals, and how I might be able to fulfill a helpful role in your learning process! I'm happy to discuss your thoughts or questions." less...
