"I've earned a BA in English and Communications with a minor in psychology. Through courses on American and British literature, rhetoric, and business communication I have produced both creative pieces and research-based papers. I possess the ability to take on multiple perspectives through engagement with African American, Native American, and English texts. I completed my education with a GPA of 3.65.
Some of my literature courses include Victorian Literature, English Literature 650 to 1650, English Literature 1660 to 1900, Literature as Social Lens, American Literature 1 and 2, and Twentieth Century Authors. My writing intensive courses include Advanced Rhetoric and Composition, Online Writing, Business Communications, Shakespeare, Expository Writing, and Writing About Literature. As far as my independent work, I have experience with public speaking through coursework as well as an independent internship promoting the English/Comm and Psychology majors. I completed an independent study researching and presenting the Ann Arbor Black English Case of 1977. I culminated my learning with a senior capstone exploring aspects of gender within a few of Shakespeare's plays, and writing/presenting my findings to the English/Comm faculty.
I'm currently a childcare worker, primarily with two year olds, but I float around the school as needed and work with children ages 1 to 5 years old. My day to day work includes teaching children (groups of 6-12 students at a time) basic concepts from colors and numbers, to writing and speaking. Combining my education and work experience provides me the needed patience and compassion to successfully aid students in reading, writing, and speaking. I aim to elicit answers/results from students rather than to "talk at" them; I do so through proofreading pre-written content, suggesting edits as needed, and reviewing homework/assignments. I am also TEFL certified (teaching English as a Foreign Language)!
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
