"Hello! My name is Jonathan, and I have worked as an Algebra I/Geometry teacher, a college TA, and a middle school math interventionist. I graduated from Texas Tech University in 2022 with dual Bachelor's degrees in mathematics and music, Summa Cum Laude.
I began to teach in 2021 when my music professor assigned me to teach after-school violin classes for 4th and 5th-grade students. Although this assignment was originally intimidating, the experience allowed me to develop a passion for helping students learn new skills and build confidence in what they can achieve. I then moved on to teach math at a Sylvan Learning Center, a private middle school, a Title I charter high school, and as a college instructor, exposing me to students from a variety of backgrounds. As a result, I have learned how to work with different learning styles and behaviors, accommodating my student's needs to help them become as successful as possible.
My goal for students is to make math approachable and help them build confidence. I am also known for being a humorous teacher; yes, there is a time to be serious, but it is also important to joke around and have fun. This helps create a comfortable environment where students are not afraid to make mistakes and try something new; in the end, it is from our mistakes that we learn how to improve and master a skill. As a result of my teaching, I have seen many of my former students who used to struggle in math increase their test scores and become leaders in their classrooms.
In addition to test prep and homework help, each one of my students has an individualized learning plan that I create to monitor their progress and make each tutoring session as efficient as possible. Whether your child is someone who has always struggled with math or wants an extra challenge, feel free to reach out! I will gladly discuss goals and develop a plan with you so your child can succeed in school." less...
