"Hi there! My name is Aubrey Linen and I am one of those rare teachers who genuinely enjoys working with middle school students! I have taught middle school Social Studies, Math, and Language Arts for 18 years in both public and private school settings here in the US as well as abroad. I have taught the Common Core Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Curriculum. I have a Master's Degree in education and currently certified to teach k-8 students in any subject.

In my experience, being successful with middle school students means finding a way to fire genuine interest and engagement. Sometimes this engagement comes from intrinsic sources like a desire to do well or a drive to learn, but more often in middle school it becomes a matter of helping students discover an extrinsic motivator until the intrinsic one has time to develop. This extrinsic motivation can come in many forms, generating interest in the subject itself, highlighting some form of reward, or even building a relationship with the student and leaning on that to be the push they need. Finding that way forward into engagement with a subject can sometimes be difficult, but is more than worth it when found.
