"Since middle school, I've been extremely passionate about (and generally rather competent with) mathematics. As this became more and more apparent to those around me, I ended up spending a lot of time helping my peers make sure they were becoming competent with the material that they were learning. This has in tandem led me to develop quite a passion for teaching mathematics, as I feel that the general public does not have anywhere near enough appreciation for all of the beauty (and practicality) in mathematics.
I am currently a student at the University of California, Riverside, working towards getting a B.S. in Mathematics, and have taken math classes of varying complexity ranging from Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus, to Real Analysis and Topology. I have about two years of volunteer experience tutoring high school level mathematics and physics with a small non-profit group, but as stated above, I have spent a lot of one-on-one time helping my peers here and there with their mathematics assignments and overall understanding of mathematics.
My general approach to teaching mathematics is to help students understand the problem solving processes they need and to show them why these processes work. From there, instead of just doing their homework for them, I help guide them through some example problems by asking them questions about where they should start and what they should do next, to ensure that they understand how to apply the processes I'm teaching them so that they can effectively use the skills they learn from me in the future." less...
