"I am a student of history. I love it, and find that there is nothing better to learn from. Government and history, in my book, go together; there is no way to separate the two. I understand that most people would rather just pass these types of classes, sort of like math, but when you really want to learn how to change the world, you learn how people in the past have changed it. I have always been excited to learn about these topics, also including philosophy, but was sorely disappointed throughout my career in school, as most teachers have no idea how to make it even remotely enjoyable. It's like they just wanted us to dump a bunch of answers on a page, and then forget it. I find it more effective to learn. Relating it to life. Showing how we can change the future by learning from the mistakes of the past. The more we remember, the better off we can be.

I have completed my Associates of Arts in Government, and am working towards my BA it also. I have tutored students since I was in high school; first by helping other students, and then the school set me up with students to help. I understand that some students just have trouble learning in the normal ways the schools want you to. My brother is one like this. He has never been able to connect with the way the schools teach, and so he has been deemed a bad student. I find it frustrating, so I enjoy helping people realize that it isn't always about whether or not you are considered a "bad student" but in reality its about how you learn the subject." less...
