"I love helping students "get" math. Whether it's a difficult new concept or a history of discouraging results, my goal is to make students more confident in their math ability. There are multiple ways to solve math problems, and I encourage students to discover methods they're comfortable with so they can thrive in their math classes.
I have a lifetime of experiences to help me help your child:
* Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
* Master's degree in Teaching Secondary School Math from Tufts University
* 2 years teaching high school math
* 15 years tutoring middle school math, high school math, and test prep
* 19 years developing and editing K-12 instructional and assessment materials for classroom use
One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is the ability to find a trouble spot and formulate similar problems (that can be solved!) on the fly, then ramp them up as necessary. Additionally, I know (or can quickly figure out) what your child's textbook is trying to do, what it assumes, and what it skips over. The result is that I can help fill in blanks your child didn't even know existed and help them see the connections to what they already know and what they're about to learn. But the best indicator of my success is that I've had students so confident after our work that they've been able to explain it to their classmates.
Whether it's for a session or for a semester, let me help your child feel confident about math. Thanks for reading!" less...
