"Thanks for your interest in working with me! I am excited to help you in your academic journey.
APPROACH:
My experiences as a student and professor have taught me the importance of internalizing key concepts, cultivating an effective problem solving process, and making connections to the real world. I also value fostering a "growth mindset", which celebrates effort and provides mental resilience. These values underpin my tutoring approach: I engage my students with interesting problems, ask them to explain basic principles and articulate their thought process, and provide a safe space for them to learn and grow. With patience and encouragement, I help each student achieve their goals.
EXPERIENCE:
I have 16 years experience tutoring and teaching courses in math, science, and engineering. I earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and taught engineering for seven years at Dartmouth College. Although I am new to the Wyzant platform, I have many satisfied students.
My full credentials are as follows: From 2018--present, I have been a Professional Engineer and Private Tutor. As a professional engineer, I use math and physics to create engineering software tools, which I use to design propellers and turbines. From 2012--2018, I was an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Dartmouth College, where I taught courses in math, fluid mechanics, and aircraft design. During 2004--2012, I earned an M.S. and Ph.D and was a Postdoc in Mechanical Engineering at MIT, where I also was a teaching assistant for seven courses. My teaching was recognized with the Wunsch Foundation Outstanding Teaching Award in 2009. Prior to graduate school, I completed a 2190-mile thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. From 2001--2004, I was a Design Engineer at Ford Motor Company. From 1997--2001, I earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Math minor) from Carnegie Mellon University.
EXPERTISE:
I have deep expertise in math, science, and engineering. I would be happy to tutor you in any of the following areas.
