"Hi!
I am Mykel, a Molecular Biology Ph.D. student at UCLA. Over the past five years, I have gained extensive training from renown institutions, such as: City College, Weill Cornell, and Columbia University. In my research, I have discovered a molecular mechanism of cell-type specific gene regulation in retinal progenitor cells, and contributed to the body of knowledge used to treat blindness.
I won a full-tuition merit scholarship for excellence in science during my freshman year of college, secured prestigious national fellowships via the NSF and NIH MARC, and have won the highest research scholarship awarded by my college. Further, I have completed highly-selective summer fellowships in molecular biophysics at Weill Cornell, and in computational biology at UCLA. I have ve also contributed to several ophthalmology gene therapy projects at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where I was formerly employed. I graduated from CCNY with a 3.4 Biology GPA, and currently hold a 3.8 in my Ph.D. program. Presently, my studies are supported by the most prestigious doctoral fellowship in the University of California system.
I am deeply committed to helping others achieve their academic goals. I have taught middle schoolers genetics, designing lesson plans and leading hands-on experiments such as gel electrophoresis. For two years, I have served as a research mentor for a combination of seven high school and college students. I also tutored academic writing, mathematics, and biology, at City College, tailoring sessions to the needs of individual students, and tracking their progress.
My tutoring approach is interrogative, encouraging students to think critically and discover concepts on their own. My goal is to empower students with the knowledge and confidence to excel academically and develop a genuine interest in their studies. With my background and experience, I am confident I can provide you the support you need to succeed and realize your dreams!
Warmly,
Mykel" less...
