"I have always known I was meant to be a teacher. I tried fighting it early on in college (I would be following in the footsteps of many educators in my family) but ultimately, I found my way to education. I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Buffalo in History and Psychology. During undergrad, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Tel Aviv, Israel where I earned a certificate in Middle Eastern studies and politics. Following graduation, I went on to travel abroad and even teach English in Barcelona, Spain where I truly realized I was meant to teach, which brought me back to Buffalo to enroll in my graduate program at SUNY Buffalo where I obtained my MEd in 7-12 Social Studies Education.
Having taught social studies teacher for 9 years now, I find myself still motivated and passionate about teaching and supporting students' eagerness to learn about the world around us and the connections one can make in today's society. I began my teaching career as a temporary teacher in a Public high school teaching 9th grade World History as a "layered" AP and IB course. The following year I obtained my current, tenured position as a 7/8 grade American History teacher. From 2019-2022, I also taught as an adjunct professor at my Alma mater, SUNY Buffalo, teaching a course, "Social Studies Curriculum." We critically examined the NYS Social Studies curriculum by using various strategies, methods, academic literature and pedagogical philosophies that would help prospective social studies teachers be successful in their own classrooms. My current role as a 7/8 teacher in an urban school setting, allows me to work with a variety of learners including students of ENL and students with IEPs. I believe that creating a positive experience for students by implementing various teaching methods and by focusing on individual learning needs helps to inspire engaging curriculum and comprehensive learning strategies." less...
