"I graduated from Pratt Institute and received my Bachelor's in Fine Arts and Master's in Science: Art and Design Education with a focus in ceramics. I jumped right into teaching as a substitute until one day I landed a position at an elementary school as the art teacher. Primarily, my experience revolves around PreK to 5th for 4+ years with some experience with middle school as well. Within that time, I've taught one on one, substituting, but majority in a classroom setting. I have always had a passion for helping students because I believe every student can achieve success with the right support.
Throughout my life, I have always found a way to work with kids even when I was a kid myself, whether that was doing homework help with K-5, tutoring during after school, helping during my art classes, and stage crew to help bring out the creativity in my students. However, art is not the only subject I help in, but also reading and math. Math was one of my favorite subjects as a kid and still is into adulthood. As for reading, I love to read for fun and for knowledge. I tell my students every day that reading is important because you learn more by every word you add to your vocabulary. Every year, I participate in our annual book fair to make sure our whole school receives at least one new book to read.
In tutoring and the classroom, I follow the 5 C's: Choice, Collaboration, Critical thinking, Creativity, and Community. Whether I am tutoring in art, math, reading, writing, or even science, I use the five C's. I guide my students with questions, get creative with strategies, work together on problems, encourage them through support from their families, and provide the opportunity to choose the learning style that fits them. When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I'm learning new baking recipes, watching movies, or enjoying a nice relaxing day to re-energize and prepare for another week of learning." less...
