"I am currently an MS1 student at Drexel University College of Medicine, also an Class of 2023 alumna of Emmanuel College. I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a concentration in Health sciences. During my undergraduate career, I worked as a peer tutor for multiple courses, including Calculus I, Introductory Biology, and Anatomy & Physiology. I was also an instructional assistant to multiple laboratory courses as well, holding an immense passion for helping current students succeed in their courses. I am also fluent in Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese, and have worked with students that are not fluent in English or are enrolled in a Chinese language course. Therefore, I've had the honor of working with students from various backgrounds, allowing me to personalize their learning experiences. As a visual learner myself, I enjoy guiding students to create diagrams and visuals, or writing down each step of a problem solution to better understand the material and provide them with the chance of trying to understand it step-by-step themselves.
I also continue to volunteer as a medical school application cycle student advisor during and after my time at Emmanuel College, helping students that are planning to apply to medical school revise their essays and compile their application throughout the span of the school year or their gap year. I work closely with the Emmanuel College Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), setting up meetings with students to guide them through the process. In regards to essay writing, especially personal statements, I encourage applicants to take time to recall upon past experiences that may have contributed to their passion to work in medicine, and then narrow down their options to one overlying theme. In addition, I provide advice and tips on studying for the MCAT examination, encouraging examinees to explore, early on, what studying and test-taking techniques work best for them." less...
