"Education is my passion. While I am skilled in many subjects, English language, writing, reading, and ESL are my specialties. Language is a tool that is used to connect us, and helping people gain the skills and confidence in their ELA abilities is one of the activities that brings me the most satisfaction.

I have spent the bulk of my 13 years of teaching in the field of English. I started my teaching career in Taiwan in 2004 and taught on the island until 2011. While there, I taught both ESL and English Language Arts from the elementary school level through high school. and After I left Taiwan, I obtained an MA in TESOL with a focus in reading strategies, writing instruction, and other techniques to help learners of all backgrounds. This training also included: curriculum development, lesson planning, and extensive workshop design. I am also quite familiar with ELD and common core standards.

I bring a diverse skill set to the table. My experience of teaching multiple grades allows me to borrow material from across age ranges and incorporate it into my lesson plans. Strategies that work well in elementary can often be effective for the struggling 6th-8th grade reader. I also plan highly interactive lessons because I specialize in experiential learning. I understand that learning is as much emotional as it is cerebral. Kids learn better when they have a vested interest in what is being taught.

My unique experience allows me to connect with many students on a personal level and help them see that a strong grasp of reading and writing is an important step to success.
