"Hello! I’m Mark, and I am a teacher, bassist, choral singer, and retired Professor of Music Theory. I’ve always been fascinated by how music works, and I am passionate about helping folks develop a solid sense of musicianship.
If you are a student taking a music theory course, I would love to help you increase your musicianship skills, such as dictation/transcription, sight-singing, and keyboard harmony. These skills help us make sense of the “written” skills (tonality, chord symbols, analysis) that can often be frustrating; we can and will refer to these while we use our eyes, ears, and voices.
If you are a musician looking to develop your ears or “learn theory,” I would be delighted to dive in to the tunes you’re learning. Want to nail that upcoming audition? Not sure which key this song is in? Don’t know what to do when you see “D7alt” on a lead sheet? Want to come up with a good harmony part? I can meet you at your level while we expand our understanding of what works, what doesn’t work, and why.
Feel free to contact me with questions, and best wishes for your musical journey!" less...
