"Welcome to my page! I’m Dennis and I specialize in Music Performance, Songwriting, English Language, and English Literature/Composition.
With a Bachelor of Arts from UC Davis in Technocultural Studies and a minor in Professional Writing, I strive to incorporate my diverse creative background into a teaching approach that is detail-oriented and flexible to your needs.
On the music side, my instruments are Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys, and Vocals. I am proficient in songwriting and production (specifically Logic Pro and Ableton recording software). I have 11 years of experience playing professionally as the bassist of my indie rock band, and I teach a variety of styles including rock, pop, blues, hard rock/metal, and up to intermediate jazz.
In my role as Music Director at School of Rock Fairfax in Los Angeles, I taught students of all ages and abilities, including those with developmental disabilities. My conscientious teaching style has been successful with students 3-70 in both ensemble classes and in 1-on-1 private lessons.
I aim to help each student to solidify their fundamentals first and to work outward from what they love about music to kickstart the process of expanding their skill. We will uncover essential knowledge about theory and technique in the process of learning our favorite music.
As a writer, I earned a score of 5 on both the AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition exams. I additionally contributed to the San Diego-based alternative music blog Listen SD as a staff writer from 2014-2019. I refined my writing skills covering the local music scene reviewing songs, albums, music videos, and festivals in addition to interviewing up-and-coming artists. My blogging experience additionally allowed me to complete my Professional Writing Minor at UC Davis in 2018.
If you decide to try out a session with me, in English or in Music, I think you will find I have your growth and best interest at heart as we work together to smash your goals!" less...
