"I have an applied sciences (AS) degree from MCCC and am experienced in years of private lessons with dozens of students in a variety of subjects. I learned my love for music theory & composition through my college professor and he also indirectly taught me how to be a teacher. His love of music and enthusiasm of re-experiencing learning music all over again is something that I value and pass on to my students.
I am a self taught drummer who performs in two local original music groups, and a bassist in another local original music group. I studied jazz guitar in college and often compose on a keyboard. I am willing to give lessons on any of the above mentioned instruments as well as voice lessons.
In regards to performance & instrument lessons, I prefer to NOT work exclusively with sheet music. I can read and write sheet music but I find that it is the biggest problem in student retention. There are many ways to learn your instrument and compose that do not require traditional methods.
In regards to music theory, sheet music is a must and will be used through all levels of theory. However I am willing to work with you/your child in whatever way works best to retain information and learn.
I want to make it clear that I am not an instructor who will prepare you/your child for an advanced music college. I am not interested in teaching someone to be the best at their instrument, but rather to enjoy music and understand it in a way that brings you/them happiness and satisfaction. Most of my students loved the way I taught and went from absolute beginners to intermediate level at their craft in short amounts of time (6-12 months). I will absolutely teach in a way that prepares for tests and performances but I will not make that the priority as it is most important to remember that music is subjective and to be “good” at it does not mean to be only technically proficient." less...
