"I received university training in music theory and composition at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Community College, and McGill University. I have also independently studied music theory and many other musical subjects.
I have been teaching privately since 1973, and taught classes as a faculty instructor at the Jazzschool Community Music School (now part of the accredited California Jazz Conservatory) in Berkeley, California from 2008 to 2016. I have taught at music camps including the Harmonica Jam Camp, the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Harmonica Collective (which I co-founded and organized) and the SPAH convention, staged annually by the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica, a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit.
I can teach to standard tests such as the AP Music Theory exam, or in a format that takes into account the student's learning style, level, motivations, and goals.
I am the author of books about the harmonica and the former publisher of a harmonica information publication.
In 2016 I received the Pete Pedersen Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica for my dedication to teaching and helping others learn." less...
