"Hi, I’m Perrin! I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree from the Berklee College of Music. I studied songwriting and am now an active writer in the LA industry. I’ve been playing piano and ukulele since the age of 8, and have experience teaching beginning and intermediate private lessons for all ages.
For songwriting, I can help guide students from a starting idea to a full-fledged song. Working on lyrics and rhyme structure, as well as crafting emotional melodies that help convey their thoughts and feelings. If you play an accompanying instrument like piano, guitar, or ukulele, that’s great! If not, I can provide backing tracks and loops to write to as well. I can also teach basic recording skills if that is an interest!
I am classically trained in piano and can teach how to read and play music in that way, but my favorite method is to teach how to play by ear. This allows me to help students learn their favorite modern songs, which makes the learning process more fun! It’s a skill that can be learned side by side to reading music as well, and helps students learn the instrument from all angles of creativity. It is especially helpful if songwriting is also an interest.
For ukulele, students can expect a similar method of bringing in their favorite songs and learning how to accompany themselves as they sing. I start with simple chord charts, and learning the basic chords that will be useful for most popular songs. As the student progresses, we work on embellishments, transitional chords, and different strum patterns.
My main goal for any lesson is to have fun and stay motivated, so I encourage students to let me know their personal goals and we can go from there! Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson :)" less...
