"Hi, I'm David, and I'll be your music and/or English tutor.
I have been singing for four years, with one-on-one classical training the past three years. I have sung everything from Mozart to Sondheim to Adele, under the guidance of expert singers with many accolades. I have gotten to the point where I can do what I want with my voice, and I have a detailed understanding of vocal technique, including posture, breathing, and voice position. I specialize in Bass, Baritone, Countertenor, Mezzo-Soprano, and Soprano.
Besides my training, I have much experience in instruction and collaboration. I was the president of El Camino College's advanced choir for one year, and collaborated with many artists and organizations on campus. I also taught and led a Kids Pop music summer camp at the Palos Verdes Music House in summer 2024, which included voice instruction, song analysis, and a final performance.
Besides my voice training, I also have extensive knowledge of the English language. I spend much of my time reading and writing, and I have an obsession with sentence structure and grammar. I believe these principles are essential, because they are necessary to communicate ideas precisely and cohesively. But reading and writing goes beyond just the structural and grammatical rules of the language; it is a way to communicate and understand ideas about knowledge and the human condition. Reading keeps us informed, and helps us better observe the world around us. It can have a profound emotional and spiritual impact on us, and it is essential for better understanding of ourselves and others.
Writing is just as essential as reading. As we are affected by what we read, whether it be the knowledge we absorb, or the emotional and spiritual profundity, writing is the key to expressing and understanding these effects on us. What is the point of reading, if we cannot express or communicate how what we read makes us feel, or how it makes us think? Both are essential to communication and understanding.
