"I lived, studied and worked in China for many years, mostly teaching English, but I had a unique opportunity to teach Mandarin at a Chinese university to German exchange students and enjoyed it so much I decided to teach Mandarin upon my return to the US almost 4 years ago. I have a near-native degree of fluency and a passion for using and sharing the language. During the last several years teaching middle and upper school Mandarin at a Montessori School, I have taught in person, as well as online and in hybrid classrooms during the pandemic. I have adopted new more natural and fun teaching methods including using movements or gestures (TPR), and storytelling and reading techniques (TPRS/CI), which have been well-received and successful. In addition to teaching middle and upper school students, last summer I started teaching an adult learner on Zoom, and he has made considerable progress. As I work part-time, I am looking for additional opportunities to help others learn Mandarin." less...
