"I majored in Journalism at Central Michigan University with a minor in political science. While in college, I spent most of my free time running up and down campus covering everts for CM-Life, the school paper. I also made a habit of helping my friends - and sometimes coworkers - proofread essays and articles. One day I would be proofreading the final copy before print, the next, I would be helping my roommate develop their thesis for English 101. This exposed me to a wide range of writing abilities and has allowed me to hone the way I teach writing to any skill level. In my experience, most writers know what they are trying to say, but have a difficult time expressing it. My assistance helped people so much, I would sometimes find a line of people outside my dorm asking for proofreads around midterms or finals.

My journalism education required intense adherence to correct grammar and style. Those things are important, but helping writers find their voice, to me, is much more vital in developing clear and correct prose.

I have experience working with children while employed at a day camp. The highlight of my days were when campers would ask questions about complex topics for me to try and explain as simply but as thoroughly as I could.
