"Hi, I'm Lucy! I am a graduate of Northwestern University where I completed a double major in Theatre and Gender & Sexuality Studies with honors. As a result of my diverse academic background, I bring an emphasis on passion, joy, and creativity to tutoring. I seek to support my students by focusing on what they can already do really well. By taking a strengths based approach, students are not only better engaged, but the material they learn is less likely to be forgotten.

I have been helping students prepare for the SAT and ACT for the past two years both freelance and through tutoring agencies. This past year I have expanded my skillset to include tutoring for high school admissions tests such as the ISEE and SHSAT. I work with students individually and in small groups, both in-person and online. When preparing students to take an admissions test, I emphasize that the test is never a value of their worth, but rather a specific skill-set I can help them to learn, pairing content with test-taking strategies. I frequently work with students who have testing anxiety, and my goal is to build their confidence so that the anxiety becomes manageable when taking the test.

I love to support students with their admissions essays, from brainstorming through final edits. These personal essays are opportunities for students to give admissions counselors a peek at the human behind the test scores. With a background in theatre, I pride myself in engaging students in storytelling when writing their personal essays, yielding more creative and passionate responses.

I have eight years of experience tutoring students K-12 in school subjects, specializing in English and Math. In addition to providing homework help, I create lesson plans and projects to engage students in topics which they are passionate about, pairing it with content to set them up for success." less...
