"I'm Kayla! I earned my bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the area of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education and I'm a licensed Special Education teacher with experience working with students in core subject areas. During my teaching experience I have worked with students with various disabilities including ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disabilities in the areas of reading, writing and math, and Emotional Behavioral Disability. I have experience working with elementary and middle school aged students in a general education classroom setting as well as small groups and one-on-one.

My passion is in the area of teaching reading/writing. I am trained in Orton Gillingham reading instruction techniques and hold a strong belief that all students can learn to read, given appropriate instruction and support. I use research-based, quality instruction strategies in my practice to ensure every student has access to the most relevant and up-to-date instruction. I also tailor each lesson to the student's specific needs based on continuous progress-monitoring during each lesson. My goal in every lesson is to help each student build confidence in their reading abilities in a way that is positive and emotionally sound.
