"Hello! I’m Breanna! I have been working in education for the last 5 years. I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade and most recently worked in a Special Education setting. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University-Idaho and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. I did a sight word research study for my capstone project with my first-grade class. The scores of my learners increased by 36% in two weeks.
My passion is supporting children who are learning to read. I have an Orton-Gillingham certificate from the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education. Orton-Gillingham is a reading instruction approach that was designed to support struggling readers. At the beginning of my first tutoring session with your child, I like to complete a get-to-know-you interview. From there, I move on to a phonological awareness assessment. Phonological awareness includes pre-foundational reading skills like rhyming and recognizing words’ beginning and ending sounds. From there, I teach any lacking phonological awareness skills. Once the child has mastered phonological awareness concepts, we move to a reading skills assessment. These assessments guide our instruction.
I recently gave birth to my first child. My husband and I are loving this new chapter of our lives. Reading tutoring allows me to continue pursuing my passion and stay balanced as a wife and mommy." less...
