"I'm Sophia! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education at Boston University and then received my Master's in Reading Education. I am in my fourth year as a public educator in New Jersey. Within a few months of my teaching career, I learned that my students needed more explicit instruction using the methods of the science of reading. For that reason, I started my journey with the Orton Gillingham approach, and am an Associate of the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
Through this approach, I have seen great strides in my students' reading success and am now reaching out beyond my community to deliver explicit instruction to dyslexic readers. I tailor each lesson to a student's previous miscue(s) in phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, single-word reading, single-word spelling, sentence reading, and sentence spelling. By following a scope and sequence, tailoring these lessons to meet students where they are, and continuously reviewing what students do know, I can present new information that meets the students where they are.
I have a year of tutoring students using the Orton Gillingham Approach. I have also tutored in various elementary-level subjects such as language arts, math, science, and social studies for the past four years. I am truly passionate about teaching and want to help you and your child succeed to their highest potential. Contact me if you are interested in elementary subject tutoring or tutoring a dyslexic student with the Orton Gillingham Approach. " less...
