"I have been tutoring students since college and teaching undergraduate and grad students for over 30 years. I really enjoy one-on-one tutoring students, as you can make a real connection with an individual student and help them be successful in the goal they are trying to attain. I am the mom of 19 year old twins and I see how some of their friends struggled with fairly basic science classes in high school and college. I am fortunate that my daughters are straight 'A' students so far but they have worked at obtaining those grades.
I have stressed to my daughters the importance of having a study plan for each course they have. This consists of more than 'just studying.' I look forward to the challenge of working with students to develop their own successful study plan, especially when many of my adult students are trying to juggle work, school and their family life!
Sometimes I feel a student can get 'swallowed up' in a classroom setting. A student may not grasp a certain basic concept and before you know it the student is struggling just to stay afloat in the class. I once had a medical school professor tell me that 'you are trying to drink the material through a straw but we are delivering it to you be a firehose!' Does that sound about right?? A great tutor can come in and really be the student's 'life-line' - assist them in 'catching up'; provide tips on how to stay current; and finally to excel in their subject matter! I would love to be your lifeline!!
I am both a registered nurse and a podiatrist and I love incorporating my clinical background into the basic sciences such as Anatomy and Physiology. Many times students feel that A&P can be so dry and 'boring.' I try to bring real life scenarios into the context so students see the relevance of learning this material. I also teach RN-NCLEX review classes for a major corporation so I am well versed in nursing curriculum as well as Pharmacology and Advanced Health Assessment. I am one of the few tutors that will work with you to improve/increase your HESI" less...
